I had so many photos of Stephanie that I just didn't know which one to choose. I finally decided to go with this main one because I love the way she is laughing here and I feel this matches our encounter and how her personality came across.
I saw Stephanie sitting with her friends in Spitalfields, London after we had pretty much finished stranger shooting for the day. However, when I saw her beautiful curly hair and infectious smile I knew I just had to get a portrait of her. With no hesitation I went over to her and asked her for a portrait to which she agreed.
I didn't speak much to her as she was sitting with people and I didn't want to take too much their time, but I did find out that she is from Guatemala. In hindsight, I wish that I had talked to everyone there a little bit more because they all seemed like really cool people (the 2 guys with her would have made great stranger portraits themselves). This was the first time that I had approached people sitting for a coffee and despite the comment above, I probably finished quickly partly because of nerves. Although it does get easier they do still exist :-)
This main shot is a little soft, and I was having moan about my 50mm lens with bomvu. Given that she is moving and the shutter speed was at 1/60, I guess I shouldn't blame my tools so readily :-) In any case, despite the softness, I really like this one. I also like the ones that I will put up in the comments, including one in colour so you can see her beautiful autumnal hair.
Stephanie was stranger 33 in my 100 strangers project. You can see my other strangers in my 100 strangers set Page
