Stranger 90/100 - John
I have been placed in Dublin, Ireland over the last couple of weeks and was keen to get at least 1 stranger portrait. This was handed to me on a plate....
I had about half an hour to kill before my flight back to the UK. I had finished my lunch and I decided to look for potential backgrounds for the future. This road looked like a potential spot and so I pulled my D610 upto my eye.
John stopped and looked at me and jokingly pointed at himself and seemed to be saying "you want a picture of me?".
I said actually "Yes I do, do you mind?" He was up for it and so I proceeded to position for the shot. I pressed the button... Nothing. I pressed it again.... still nothing. Nothing happened again on the 3rd attempt. I gave up started chatting instead.
John is a very interesting character and could have happily spent a full afternoon chatting with him. He has been teetotal for 30 years, but still goes to the pub for tea. At one point he had been barred from most of the pubs in the main centre. His wife is 20 years younger than him and I could easily see that happening as a result of his charming Irish banter.
During this time, I suddenly realised why my camera wasn't working. I had set it on timer mode the previous evening and forgot to change it back! Doh! Schoolboy error number 3. Anyway, I was happy to have realised the error of my ways in time and got a few shots.
Thank you so much John for being a part of my project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the
