102 WWI Happy birthday

Silk embroidered postcards presented in ornately embossed mounts were made in France and Belgium during the First World War, thousands being bought by British soldiers to send home to their loved ones. The motifs embroidered on this example include the French and British flags, flowers (including a forget-me-not) and the words ‘happy birthday’. The printed text on the back states, ‘Vve C. – PARIS mod. déposé.’. A message has also been handwritten in ink, and reads: ‘To / Cyril with fondest love From / Daddy.’.
