Glasgow, Scotland ~ The Subway
Glasgow has the cutest (yes I wrote cutest) little subway. It is a circle line with little cars and little platforms. It is the third oldest subway in the world and opened in 1896. It is a twin bore tube with narrow-gauge cars. It was originally powered by cables and was electrified in 1935. The entire system was renovated in the late 1970s (can anyone say clay quarry tile?) and little is left from 1896 except the St Enoch Square headhouse which is now a cafe.
