He plays his haunting music at the Eternal Spring Shrine. This shrine is the entrance to the road cutting through the Taroko Gorge. His music (and the shrine) is a tribute to the 450 men who lost their lives building this impossible portion of the Central Cross-Island Highway, of which some parts were cut out of solid rock by hand.

The Liwu River that flows through the 20km long gorge before emptying out into the Pacific is in the backdrop of his music. On its way it leaves a trail of marble-walled canyons and cliffs than drop down upto 1km (from the road) and block out the sky.

The melancholic music is accompanied by silence, a mark of respect and homage to the men and their families. Incidentally, it is also the 1st Anniversary of the one of the world's worst natural disasters - The Asian Boxing Day Tsunami. This moment is dedicated to everyone who was torn by the tragedy.

This photo is a classic victim of "thumbnailification" syndrome. The eyes are completely lost and they -- the haunted aspect -- are what make the pic.

I was touched by the text as well and find it oddly synchronistic. I just posted an homage earlier today to the Lost in "Thumbnail" Translation.

Please do think about adding this to:
