    This scanning transmission electron microscope image shows the cross section of a SrMnO3/LaMnO3 superlattice with atomically sharp interfaces, synthesized by molecular beam epitaxy at Argonne's Center for Nanoscale Materials. The layers with brighter contrast are the LaMnO3 layers, and the darker layers are the SrMnO3 layers.
