Harrisburg Covered Bridge

Harrisburg Covered Bridge

Sevier County, Tennessee

June 4, 2008

The Harrisburg Covered Bridge carries Old Covered Bridge Road over the East Fork of the Little Pigeon River.

This bridge was built in 1875 by Elbert Stephenson Early to replace an earlier bridge that was washed away by a flood. The bridge has been repaired and renovated several times over the years; it was last rehabilitated in 2004.

The present bridge consists of a 64 foot long timber Queenpost pony truss section designed as a single span and an 18 foot long approach consisting of a wooden deck supported by steel I-beams. A covered structure topped with a tin roof encases the wooden truss section.
