Mugabe calling for NZ to be expelled from 1982 Commonwealth Games

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade have declassified over 100 files as part of their declassification programme. Included in the release is a file on Apartheid and Sport. The file contains correspondence on the fall out from the Springboks tour of NZ and how many African nations were dismayed at New Zealand in allowing the tour to go ahead. Prime Minister of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe, called for the expulsion of New Zealand from international sporting events as a punishment. No expulsion took place as New Zealand were represented at the 1982 Brisbane Commonwealth Games.
