Pigeon netting is the terror of the universe. I'm all for using shotguns and trained assasin-owls to protect historic buildings.

  • Charles Shelton 4y

I'm dazzled by the detail, Dave--pigeon netting aside, of course ;-)
  • CharlieCharlcomb 4y

A wonderful image, so full of lovely stuff (netting aside)
  • Ella 4y

Such lovely light and details. The netting is not that visible, it looks ok.
  • *HSF* 4y

    Gorgeous Details!
  • Ken 4y

My new business will be "Trained Assasin-Owls For Hire".
  • Walt Jabsco 4y

Fantastic light, whilst I agree re pigeon netting
  • sporty, arty, reflective 4y

Wonderful detail - so much thought and work must have gone into this.

    Happy New Year to you.
  • Last Human Gateway 4y

    Pigeon Netting is horrible stuff
  • sly's eye 4y

    Nice shadows and details!
    (Eww.. pigeons!)
  • ktmqi 4y

Perhaps some Ninja cats could do the job better? Nice shot, you can never have too many putti.
  • Zed Freejack 4y

    Well, hmm,
imagine all the holes from that shotguns on your pictures and the loads of assasin-owls and ninja cats that appear always just in the moment you press the shutter. Very annoying. I fear you would end up using the shotguns to scare away the hunters, owls and cats... Thus no time remains for shooting pictures.
    Have fun, Zed.

It's a great shot, netting aside. It's a shame the netting (or the spikes) is necessary. Perhaps a pigeon version of myxomatosis is called for? Of course, cleaning up all the pigeon corpses would be... less than pleasant.
  • rabidbee 4y

    Wouldn't shotguns damage the building?
  • PowerPawsNW 4y

Agreed, Davey, tho' I prefer Peregrine falcons....
  • Pete 4y

Charles Shelton Heh heh. This is one of the city's finest banks and drips with detail. It is copied from a library in Venice from the C16th

CharlieCharlcomb It is so busy that it is hard for the eye to settle on any single detail, but if really does require close attention

Ella Thanks very much. I took lots on this day and it has to be said that this one suffered least from that dreaded peril!

*HSF* Cheers very much. It is an explosion of decoration!

Ken You might also consider training penguins to hold machine guns?

Walt Jabsco There are so many alternatives that netting is inexcusable and really make buildings look wrecked. Thanks though Walt

sporty, arty, reflective Happy new year to you too! Can you imagine the expense and the questions that would be asked of a bank that would attempt that today?

Last Human Gateway I think pigeons might leave off the buildings if only they were appropriately educated

    sly's eye Thanks mate

ktmqi Ha ha ha. Thanks mate. I laughed at the notion of ninja cats. I think that is a smashing notion! So glad you like the photo mate. Thank you.

Zed Freejack Oh the dilemma! Though could you imagine the flickr viewing figures for ninja kitties assaulting pigeons? Heh heh

inked1 Glad you like the shot Nate. On the whole I think I prefer the spikes even though they are still obtrusive. It's a difficult balancing act I guess

rabidbee Yoy shoot the pigeons from the top of the buildings as they fly of course. So they can never land.

PowerPawsNW He he he. No one ever calls me Davey :-D thanks mate ;-)

    Pete Thanks
  • Jason Lupi 4y

    wow- what detail..!
I thought you were a nice man; pigeon killer eh?
  • rabidbee 4y

archidave That sounds like a _really_ low budget version of Reign of Fire.
  • Füzzy Mijmark 4y

    Utterly baroque in detail.
  • archidave 4y

Jason Lupi me? Im all bad me :-)

rabidbee never seen it so can't comment :-)

Füzzy Mijmark If I'm being really fussy I shall say that it is renaisance in detail :-P But i get what you mean, and thanks Fuzzy
