The alabaster pieces displayed in the glass case portray three episodes of Christ's Passion: the Flagellation, the Crucifixion and Christ's descent into limbo.
The use of alabaster was widespread in the late 14th and 15th centuries. It is a soft, easily carved stone, which hardens on contact with the air. It is porous, easily painted, and when polished can be mistaken for marble.
