The Sutro Baths in San Francisco have become one of my favorite spots. The ruins are fascinating, and I enjoy finding new spots. The stairs on the hillside remind me of something in Europe--maybe a castle by the sea. Maybe something from Middle Earth.
I had an odd weekend. Originally, I was going to Vegas and then head out from there to Zion (possibly with Little M), then come back to work in our office in Vegas for two days. Everyone in the world appeared to want to spend Valentine's in Vegas, so there were absolutely no cars to rent. Zion was out. I had a layover in Sacramento, so I got off the plane from Portland and asked if I could get out of the flight to Vegas until Sunday night and just stay in the area for the weekend. I got a solid "no" unless I wanted to pay $200. So I played Scrabble and waited. I got in line to board the plane, and they made an announcement that they had overbooked the flight and needed volunteers to get off and take a later flight. I darted to the counter and offered a cheesy grin to the guy I'd asked about getting off the plane earlier. He gave me a cheesy grin back, issued a ticket for Sunday night, handed me a $270 flight voucher and sent me on my way to get a rental car to drive to San Francisco.
So no Zion. But I'll take San Francisco any day.
