Calypso is an endangered green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) that lives at the National Aquarium in Baltimore, Md. Calypso was rescued from frigid waters off the coast of New York several years ago and was found to have an infection in the left front flipper, which was amputated to save the animal's life. Still too young to exhibit gender traits, this animal lives in the sting ray exhibit in the National Aquarium, where divers feed it lettuce, cabbage, peppers and other vegetables. Calypso also loves to have its back scratched, and we divers love to indulge this desire.
