Mazey Day Montage

Midsummer's Day is the church feast of St John The Baptist, an important day in Penzance's calendar as St John is the town's Patron Saint - the ancient name 'Pen Sans' meaning 'Holy Head' refers to him, and images of the head of St John can be spotted on buildings throughout Penzance in Cornwall.

The Saturday nearest to St John's Feast is a celebration day in Penzance called Mazey Day. The streets are decorated and closed to traffic, the school parades with costumes, and giant images are made of withies and paper.

This year Mazey Day was blessed with perfect summer weather, and the crowds lined the street, crowded around the entertainers and filled the town’s pubs and cafes. A memorable day.
