HMS Hood 1918-1941

A Wonderful image of my favorite ship, HMS Hood, seen here on the 9th of January 1920, leaving the fitting out basin at John Brown and Co.

the ship was launched on the 22nd of August 1918 at 1.05pm at John Browns in Clydebank

HMS Hood was lost in a conflagration/explosion at 0600am on the 24th of May 1941 in the Denmark straits, destroyed most likely by a 15inch shell from the Battleship Bismark striking around midships, out of a crew of 1418 officers and men, only 3 survived

its a strange thought to me that pretty much everything in this photograph is now gone or changed beyond all recognition
