Kalinka Restaurant - Montreal

    Newer Older

UPDATE SAT 18-NOV-2006: The restaurant is now closed, defunct, kaputz, as in no longer. :-(
I have no idea what happened to the owners, or why they closed up, if they relocated, moved back to Russia, or what. A Mexican-Argentian restaurant has taken its place. *sigh* There goes the only affordable and best bowl of borscht in town.

Best borscht this side of the atlantic!

Small but cozy Russian restaurant on rue St. Marc - above St. Catherine St.
My favorite Russian restaurant; for absolutely the BEST borscht in town - perfect for a chill November or wintery day! And if the borscht doesn`t warm you up, try a shot of stolichnaya!

    Na zdorove, baby!

    LOCATION: 1409 St Marc
    PH: 932-3403

It looks good, but what is Borscht?

    3. Artista 113 months ago | reply

Borscht is a russian soup made with beets and is usually served with sour cream.

      Not JUST beets ;-)

This restaurant makes the BEST borscht in town! Made with fresh beets, yes - but also added is fresh shredded cabbage, onions, potatoes, polish sausage, and seasonings.

Served with a generous dollop of rich sour cream and sprinkled with fresh dill, with a side dish of dark caraway rye bread..

      Delicious comrade!

I highly recommend it on a cold, blustery wintery day!!
