Canadian Horse - Cheval Canadien
BREED PROFILE : www.ansi.okstate.edu/breeds/horses/canadian/index.htm
All the horses ridden by the Parc Mont Royal's mounted police unit are Canadian Horses (Cheval Canadien).
It's no surprise that Montreal's Mounted Police Unit would choose the Canadian Horse as their preferred mount of choice. The Canadian Horse is an intelligent and sturdy equine; exceptionally hardy (especially in winter weather), sturdy with good bone and foot, and of sound, robust conformation.
Canada's "Little Iron Horse" - the Cheval Canadien - is the official breed of horse of Canada; of which the Morgan Horse was founded upon. The Canadian Horse has contributed to the origins of many of the American Breeds, including not only the Morgan, but also the Standardbred, American Saddlebred, and many other North American breeds.
