Peanut Butter Blossom Cookies

Newly discovered recipe, and an instant hit!






1/2 cup shortening

3/4 cup peanut butter (smooth or crunchy)

1/3 cup granulated sugar

1/3 cup packed brown sugar

1 egg (slightly beaten)

2 tablespoons milk

1 teaspoon vanilla

1-1/2 cups unsifted all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

9 ounce package of Hershey kisses (approx 48), unwrapped and placed in freezer.

Combine flour, baking soda and salt. Set aside.

Cream shortening and peanut butter; add brown sugar & granulated sugar. Add egg, milk and vanilla. Beat well. Gradually add flour mixture to creamed mixture, blending thoroughly. Shape cookie dough into 1-inch balls and roll in granulated sugar. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet; and bake in a 375 degrees F. oven for 10 -12 minutes.

Remove from oven and immediately place one hershy kiss in the middle of each cookie, pressing down so that the cookie cracks around the edges. Remove from cookie sheet and place on wire racks to cool.


Makes about 4 dozen.
