Lego Compatible Disc Buttons - Variations on a Theme

Newer Older

Measured original 16mm diameter Lego disc.

Designed disc buttons in SketchUp.

Prototyped on MakerBot.

Fabricated in plastic via Shapeways.

Fabricated in bronze-infused steel via Shapeways.
Aside: This particular button doesn't fit the Lego piece so looks like the dimensions need to be scaled down a bit to compensate. I'll have to measure the delta when I get home.

Very cool. I'm curious, how much did each cost? That metal is pretty!

Base prices for single quantities (included shipping):
    Transparent Detail (plastic): US 1.44
Stainless Steel - Polished: US 5.20

I need to break out the calipers (a tool essential to productive Makerbotting) on all the variants and write up a summary of my observations. It's definitely a case of picking the right tools+materials for the right job.
