Laugh-Out-Loud Cats igoogle theme submission, part 1

Newer Older

There's still some work to go on this, as time permits. I'll be adding a couple more images so it will change throughout the day, and the other colors associated with the theme need some finessing.
And Google, there's something you need to know: these should be a lot easier to cobble together and submit. You should allow users who know absolutely no code whatsoever to easily produce and submit themes. The wall o' code you expect with each submission might as well be Huttese to some of us. WYSIWYG never killed anyone.
I'm pretty sure Coldplay and Bob Dylan didn't need XML knowledge to submit their themes.

LinusMines, sandrino, John Moltz, and 11 other people added this photo to their favorites.

Not until they make it a helluva lot easier.

Will we be able to find it in the themes list sometime soon?

  3. Ape Lad 76 months ago | reply

It has to be properly coded and I still want to do a couple more backgrounds so it will change throughout the day. Then I can submit it. I don't know how long it takes them to decide whether or not to list it publicly. Here's the xml code from the online wysiwyg builder if that means anything : www.hawidu.com/themes/public/theme112008111157.xml

    "WYSIWYG never killed anyone."

Maybe not but WYSIWYG beat me up and took my wallet one time.

Ooo... this is enough to actually make me use one of those themes!

Dude, if you ever need help with nerdy code, you know where to find me.

I work close to the G'plex - let me know when we get the firebrands and march on them shoulder to shoulder to make this happen.

I cant find the theme on iGoogle. What's the proper search tag, author, or keyword?

  9. Perry G 76 months ago | reply

Not actually online yet. I used the XML file provided above to use it in "test" mode. Doesn't change with the time of day yet.

Thanks Perry! The online builder thingee didn't have any options for adding the other images.
I wish I had time this week to revisit this, but I have family in town and a turkey to eat.

Try using this XML file. It seems to work with all 3 images, although I'm not sure I put them in the right order.

I hear Sarah Palin knows where to find a fresh turkey, if you need one.

^^How do you fool GMail into using this theme?

  13. Perry G 76 months ago | reply

No idea. I can't find any documentation on creating/customizing themes for Gmail. Just stuck with the ones they have for now, I think. Of course, someone out there may have a workaround...

Thank you soooo much, Perry G! I'll think of some way to thank you.
Oh no! The big blue monster is chasing the dogcow!

I don't get it... wheres the part of it that says 'Google'?

  16. Ape Lad 74 months ago | reply

You need to sign up for a google account first, then add it from their selection of themes.

See my comment above to see what it looks like as an iGoogle theme.
