Variegated Antpitta

Grallaria varia imperator

Intervales State Park, São Paulo state, Brazil.

A big antpitta found in eastern and southern Brazil as well as parts of the Amazon basin and in the Guianas. Imperator is the biggest subspecies - HBW lists it as 20.5 cm but to me it seemed even larger than that. This bird was coming into worms put out for it by the park guides.
