Bellerophon, nude, sitting astride Pegasus, the reins held tightly in his left hand, his right hand outstretched / Chimaera shattering one of the spears thrown by Bellerophon, a second in the neck of the goat forepart

 

Good very fine, fine old cabinet toning.

 

Of the very greatest rarity. A magnificent depiction of one of the most famous of all Greek myths. Formerly in the Pozzi collection.
