Story: Meet Siobhan. She is one of the lead singers of the Irish band “Dannsair”, which plays traditional Irish music. The other evening, we went to dinner to a great place called “Dargan’s Irish pub and restaurant” in Santa Barbara. As we were led to our table, I realized that there was going to be a live show - a band replete with flute, violin, percussion, base, guitars and other instruments was setting up on stage.
At that moment, the idea of finding a “stranger” here did not occur to me. So, as I was perusing the menu (I had some excellent fish and chips btw!) I noticed that there were movie cameras set up all around us. That’s when I thought, “hey, why not ask one of the lead singers to be part of my ‘Strangers project’”?
After I had set up my camera (no flash, of course!), I worked up the courage to go up and ask Siobhan if she would like to be part of my project. I’ll tell you, you couldn’t have asked a nicer person. I didn’t even need to tell her what the project was about and she already agreed. So, I took a couple of shots. In one I asked her to smile, in another not to smile and finally a last shot where I told her to make up any expression. She was a good sport and tried them all. In the end, I liked the first shot of her smiling.
On a funny note, a gentleman behind me asked if "that line" always worked for me. I found out that it was her dad! She has been singing with him since she was eleven. He was the lead guitar player of the band. I have since regretted not asking him to participate in this project as well. Watching them play, I realized that he was the epicenter of energy for the band, which played brilliantly btw. If you want to know more about the band, their website is: www.Dannsair.com
Siobhan, thanks for participating in my "Strangers project". I hope that you like the picture. Cheers.
