Another Urban Photography Summer School
Applications for the Urban Photography Summer School at Goldsmiths University have closed. But it occurs to me that I could try and do the course anyway. It runs intensively from Monday 3 September to Saturday 15 September. And if anyone else is in a similar situation maybe we could self-organise our own summer school together. I'll use Flickr as a learning platform for producing a portfolio of images and texts, and I'll also consider and compare Wordpress, Tumblr, Facebook and Twitter as other sites or platforms for sharing this work and getting feedback.
The programme explores how the practice of urban image making informs the development of a reflexive and critical research perspective. It includes assignments and field trips focusing on (1) urban landscape, (2) street photography and (3) material objects.
The aim is to involve people in conversations around the nature of city spaces and how photographic images might convey meaning and construct a narrative of urban space.
The course encourages a degree of experimentation around what constitutes contemporary urban photographic practices and hopes a learning practice will continue after the project is completed.
