St Aphrodise, Béziers
Founded on an important ancient burial site, partly dating from the 3rd century (as is revealed today by a sarcophagus from this period used as a baptismal font). A pre-Romanesque Basilica, modified during the Gothic period; devoted to the town’s patron saint, Aphrodise, the church visible today dates mainly from the 10th, 11th and 14th/15th centuries.
