DOG, Ptolemy Chalfant at 13, napping

This is for Elizabeth Avery. A basenji who was well loved. One of Bandit's cousins.

Oh! Breathtaking! Thank you for thinking of me and my Bandit!
  • AK●MG 6y

    Absolutely Beautiful!

Elizabeth! Talk about instant gratification. Your Bandit comes from a long line of thieves....Ptolomey was a master of domination- and his dad is from Pittsburgh - the great cultural history documenter Henry Chalfant.

and AK-MG, thanks - I am always grateful to have your eyes on my work.

Anne - Thanks for the history. Bandit yodels like a basenji and will "sing" with us, which is pretty funny. He's also quite wily and - like Ptolomey here - a tad bossy!

I love the detail around the mouth!

    So sensitive.

another stunning painting that is both simple and contains so much detail (if that makes sense).

    So beautiful Anne!!!
  • VHein PRO 6y

Yes, just beautiful--love the simplicity of the silhouette with the loving attention to detail around the eyes and muzzle...and those Egyptian ears!
  • Omar Jaramillo 6y

Anne!, This is beautiful! how did you do the mouth? pencil or watercolour?
  • Drawing Breath PRO 6y

    Perfect.

Thanks everyone. You are such great fortifiers. I really appreciate it!

Elizabeth- yes Ptolemey was bossy with a capital B. This painting was done some years ago - he was just months shy of his departure, and much mellowed from the boy I knew who stood atop a buffet table at a brunch party and challenged anyone to dislodge him.

Virginia - you inspire me so much. Thanks for your careful attention as always - those are precisely the things that pleased me with this one. And to finally capture the sweetness of this old rowdy.

Omar- all watercolor, and the likelihood is that the details were done with a gently squeezed edge of a bright brush - not the point of a round one.
