Lab notebooks (323.365)
June 27: Visited the Salinas USDA research station today, just for a look-see. Got a tour of the plant pathology labs and chatted with a few of the interns. The bottom shelf here is full of lab notebooks. As my friend who gave me the tour said, "If it's not in the notebook, it didn't happen." Writing everything down as accurately and completely as possible is a critical part of doing science. But the lab notebooks made me think of the notebook my mentor in my writing program suggested I keep. Pretty much everything went into it, willy-nilly. And now when I look back at it, I am impressed with what a rich life I have--because the proof is right there! Perhaps I need to start another notebook. I could call it my "life lab notebook."
