Photo Stories / On the Margins of the Great Lake
The Tonle Sap is the largest fresh water lake in SE Asia. During the monsoon season, thanks to its tributaries reversing flow, the lake swells up to 8 times its size in the dry season. These images are from the largest community on the margins of the lake - Kompong Khleang, approximately 45 minutes drive from Siem Reap. Inhabitants live in harmony with the rising and falling waters of the lake and practise subsistence fishing lifestyle. Their houses are either floating or stilted.
