Eagle Gate

Eagle Gate (1859), SLC, UT

Eagle Gate marked the entrance to Brigham Young's farmland as well as City Creek Canyon. Travelers had to pay a toll to pass through the Eagle Gate to City Creek Canyon until 1882, when State Street opened to the public.

The original gate was designed by Truman O. Angell, the architect of the Salt Lake Temple. The gate was altered four times to accommodate the growing traffic.
