Buddha in Dambulla Cave

Another sleeping/resting Buddha in one of Dambulla caves.

For the Buddhists, the lotus flower symbolizes the Buddha, that's why in temples you'll often see people placing lotus flowers in front of Buddha statues, just like the people do in this photo.

Dambulla cave temple, also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla, dates back to 1st century BC. It consists of 5 caves under a vast overhanging rock. 4 caves have s sleeping Buddha statues, alongside with other statues and numerous paintings on the walls. Altogether, Dambulla temple contains 153 Buddha statues, 3 statues of Sri Lankan kings and 4 statues of gods and goddesses.
