Barlinnie boys

Mugshots of prisoners in Glasgow's Barlinnie jail, each taken on the day of their release in 1890. How about that WC Fields-looking guy at the bottom right?

Most mugshots are taken when someone has just been arrested, which makes it kind of nice to see a few that show people's expressions at the other end of their time of trouble.

The pictures come from the National Archives of Scotland, which has scanned in a few old ledgers from Barlinnie and Greenock, presumably to enable American genealogists to see what their criminous ancestor looked like.
