What if everything was perfect?

~update post

I know most of you seeing this photo of me must be thinking, "oh she's posting this to update us about how Chicago is going!" Well, I wish. This is simply not the case. Everything that could of went wrong, basically did.

My flight from Calgary left on Sunday at 7am, I arrived to Toronto (stop over) around noon, and my flight from Toronto to Chicago was supposed to leave at 2pm. Turns out when I went into U.S. customs they had a huge problem with me entering the country.

They told me that I didn't have everything I needed. Although according to the travel insurance, my school, and Phlearn, all I needed to come through to the US (for less than 6 months) was my passport. Looks like everyone was wrong.

I spent all of Sunday in the airport talking to US customs, talking to supervisors trying to see if there was a way to get to Chicago that day, they all said no, and that I needed a J1 Visa or some shit. I called Phlearn, they said they are not authorized to fill it out. I told the supervisor of US customs this, and he told me to come back to the airport tomorrow with a letter from Phlearn and I'll be able to go through. I had to wait until the next day because the airlines and customs were closing (at 9pm).

So this photo you see here was taken in Toronto, Ontario. I had to spend the night there. I would of slept in the airport but I didn't trust it when I had all of my camera gear on me, so I stayed in a hotel for the night.

The next morning I got up, got a new ticket to go to Chicago, and went through customs again, showed them the letter, and they still flipped shit at me and told them I am not ready to travel and can not come until this form gets filled out (J1 Visa). I call Phlearn, Phlearn calls some people (US Customs in Washington DC, guys in Toronto airport, etc.). Good news is that YES they can get this J1 Visa (before they didn't think they could get it because they thought they weren't authorized), bad news is that it's going to take 2 TO 3 WEEKS.

So then I was just like, shit. What do I do? I can't go to Chicago until we get this Visa sorted out, but I can't stay in Toronto because I don't know ANYBODY. I can't go back to Calgary because I have my apartment rented out to two of my buddies for the Summer. What do I do…

First I thought I was going to go to Newfoundland because that's my hometown, thats where my mom and dad are, but after looking at prices it would cost me about $1500+ to do that. Getting to Newfoundland wouldn't of been too expensive, but going to Chicago FROM Newfoundland is the expensive thing.

So next best thing, Nova Scotia! My uncle and aunt and my cousin Krystal live there! It's still costing me an extra almost thousand bucks, but it's better than costing me almost two thousand dollars (if I went to Newfoundland). So I bought a ticket to go to Nova Scotia, and I got there on Monday night at around 10:30.

So hello from me to you, from Nova Scotia.

It's not all bad. It's good that I get to spend some time here with my family, and my two best friends Meghan and Mike live here as well. I get to see Meghan tomorrow, and get to see Mike probably sometime later in the week.

And as far as me going to Chicago…. I will be going as soon as me and the guys at Phlearn have this J1 Visa sorted out (2-3 weeks). The guys at American Airlines credited me the amount of money I paid on my original ticket from Calgary to Chicago, so it's not too bad. It's not like I have to buy it from scratch kind of thing.

But this is my life. It's great to be in Nova Scotia with my family, but I can't wait to get myself over to Chicago. What a start of a summer!!!! Haha :) :P
