In the Belly of the Beast: A Walk through Lower Manhattan
In January 2013, I visited the US to campaign for the closure of the prison at Guantánamo Bay on the 11th anniversary of its opening, taking part in events in Washington D.C. and McLean, Virginia from January 10 to 12, and in New York on January 13, which I made available in three previous photo sets.
In contrast, this set of photos was taken on January 8, my first full day in New York City, when it was unseasonably warm, the sun shone magnificently, and my host escorted me on a walk from the Cobble Hill area of Brooklyn over the Brooklyn Bridge into Lower Manhattan. I then wandered through the financial district, down to Battery park -- somewhere I have always wanted to visit -- before walking back up through Lower Manhattan, and then back across the Brooklyn Bridge as dusk fell.
This second set contains the photos from the second part of that journey, through the financial district, past Wall Street, to Battery Park.
