The Price of Freedom: Witness Against Torture activists call for the closure of Guantanamo in the Museum of American History

On January 11, 2014, the 12th anniversary of the opening of the "war on terror" prison at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, activists with the campaigning group Witness Against Torture occupied the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, where they spent several hours providing a powerful contrast between accepted American history and the horrors of Guantánamo, and having an opportunity to let visitors to the museum know the truth about a topic on which many Americans still know shockingly little. This particular tableau was set up in front of the exhibition, "The Price of Freedom: Americans at War," which, as the Smithsonian describes it, "surveys the history of America's military from the French and Indian Wars to the present conflict in Iraq," and Art Laffin of Witness Against Torture, seen here on the left, was one of several speakers with the group who highlighted hidden aspects of this particular story, with relation to Guantánamo.
