The Queen

    Newer Older

Another 2012 project. Trying to document something about the decline (not demise!) of 'the pub'. I see so many of them around and about. There is a story here which i'm sure others can write about eloquently but i find it interesting. Its something about 'progress' or 'change' or something. its not about right or wrong just the natural way of things to come in and out of fashion.

anyway, still deciding the best way to handle the project. started out with black and white but also thinking about colour (soft hues using Kodak Portra of something punchier perhaps). Wondering also about a square format or not. having fun deciding though...

this is The Queen down on Burley Road, Leeds. Used to be a thriving little place with folk buying a pint and taking it to the Corner Cafe next door for a curry. Judging by the hanging basket it can't habe been shut for that long? Shame that the queen in question (Victoria) hasn't got a face anymore!

Good idea there are so many old pubs closed now, and for what I read, more and more are about to close too.

The old Queen herself looks depressed up on the sign!
