Unknown to me, but my first impression is the shape of a highway marker sign, and perhaps the stone cottage is a well known place to stay along the route, years before motel chains. "Don't forget to plan your day, at the Rock Inn you'll stay." Of course they played rock and roll at night in the road-dusty moonlight.

this could be a badge outline many officers or law enforcement (pinkertons) had these made out of pride for their work if the dark shadow in the back was more clear it might show a uniform of some type

Rita, these "box in a basement" photos are all so wonderful! Did you post the story of finding them? If so I missed it but would love to hear. It must have been absolutely fantastic going through them all when you got them home and discovering the treasure you had.
Thanks so much for sharing them.

Deborah Lundbech The box is still in the basement of the antique store. The good thing is, I'm probably the only one who knows about it. These guys have so much stuff, they haven't even opened at least 75% of the stuff they have. They bought it all from one man who had been collecting EVERYTHING for years. They wrote him a cheque for $100,000 and cleaned him out. So I'm planning to go back this week and look for more Clara pictures. Hopefully, no one has discovered this box.
