IKEA Coventry (Ben Stephens Architecture with Ruddle Wilkinson Architects/Capita Architecture 2007)

IKEA Coventry is the first and only city centre IKEA store in the world - the three in Hong Kong are reduced in size and integrated in existing Malls - it is also the tallest freestanding IKEA store in the world. The store was designed alongside IKEA's design office in Sweden. The footprint area was a lot smaller than an out of town store meaning that the building had to be built upwards rather than outwards. It is an unconventional design but in-keeping with the principles of the standard IKEA store layout.

The top floor contains a restaurant (there had been an Ice cream Parlour on the 3rd level) and a cafe on the ground floor.
