Sea haze

Trafalgar 200 fleet review 2005

A small day boat sails across the frame as a Griffon Hovercraft heads out into the Solent.

At anchor some distance away are (centre) the German frigate FGS Sachsen (F219), lying just astern (right) is the British type 23 frigate HMS St Albans (F83). immediately behind the German frigate is the British Cable Ship CS Sovereign.

Over at the left in the haze is the Polish frigate PNS General.T.Kozciuzko (272)

Tadeus Kozciuzko was a hero of the American revolutionary wars and using the name was a good way of saying thank you for the sale of the former USS Sides.

Bizarrely, Mount Kozciuzko in Australia was named after him as early as 1840 !

NB: the lovely golden haze is actually air pollution from all 130 vessels attending on the day - including the Tall ships - as they all have diesels for low speed manoeuvring.
