These dedication art apprentices were:

Elizabeth Zunino - CSUEB and USF

Karla Hargrave - SF State

Mali Benvenutti - Vineville Academy of the Arts, GA and Mills College, Oakland, CA

Tammy Howard - The Illinois Institute of Art, Schaumburg

Alani Taira - College of the Arts, Oakland, CA

For the Gateway Mural restoration:

Steven Bales - Chabot College

Jerry Sannebeck - Chabot College and Kenneth Aiken Community Center

Thanks to everyone who made this project possible."

(HAYWARD, CA) – Visitors and residents entering Downtown Hayward from the north are regularly wowed by one of the jewels of the city’s mural arts program, the monumental “Hayward Gateway Mural.”

This mural greets approx. 50,000 visitors to Hayward each day on Foothill Blvd.

The sweeping work of art covers 3,500 square feet with California poppies and oak trees to marshland and the glittering bay beyond.

Artist Andrew Kong Knight spent a over a year creating the massive, extraordinary Hayward Gateway Mural, the largest mural in the city of Hayward.

The Gateway Mural, which once stood as a backdrop to a barren corner, has since been graced by lush landscaping and signature architectural signage welcoming guests to downtown Hayward. The landscaping and signage compliment the mural, creating a visual continuity that honors the artwork and extends its theme of natural beauty.
