What an absolutely fantastic evening to be outside! I'm not sure if this pier even has a name or not. I spotted it during a portrait session on Redington Beach and knew I'd end up visiting it soon looking for a photo.
This was one of those nights where the sky barely lit up at all until the last second, and then it went crazy. I've found the most beautiful of skies are always when a storm is in the area (usually just before or after). This sunset was being chased by one complete with some of the most spectacular lightning I have seen in a while.
Being on the beach before/after/during a storm is my favorite. Usually there aren't many people there, and the people who are still out there are usually just as caught up in the weather as I am. It always seems to be quiet, almost remote. Weird when I live so close to where this photo was taken. And, with how incredibly busy life is in the Tampa Bay area, the calm or silence is rare.
This is my busy time of the year with doing Senior portraits so moments like this are few and far between but almost more rewarding when they happen!
This is a 5 minute exposure just after sunset. It was the last rush of twilight before the evening storm set in.
