Celtic Bird Crossstitch

    Newer Older

Did this in 1999 or 2000. The original design was a half page thing so it looked smaller than it ended up being. If I'd had any idea what I was getting into, I would have stopped or never even started. I did this one winter, and started to do the different birds in different colors because it was hard to keep track of where I was in the design. I was also curious to see if the birds actually had all their parts. After that, it was a short step to completely filling it in.

If you look very closely along the upper edge (at a higher res) you can see some hashmarks I wrote onto the fabric in purple pen to count out the perimeter.

There are 73,861 teensy weensy cross stitches in this, BTW. (But who's counting?)

Wow - I've never seen this. Is it up in your house somewhere?

It's folded on a chair in the living room at the moment. I've never had it framed or hung it.

Amazing! Love the colours. How long did it take you to do?

I think I started it towards the end of a summer, set it aside, then picked it up again and worked on it over the winter. I'd guess about 4-5 months.
