Godiva's Convoy in Hillmorton Road, Rugby

There was a second chance to see Lady Godiva, this time mounted on her horse, the following morning as she left Rugby for Northampton with her convoy of cyclists, passing the top of our road en route!

An unforgettable experience was the spectacle of seeing a giant incarnation of a (clothed) Lady Godiva strolling through the streets of Rugby town centre. Connected to the London 2012 Olympics (but far more enjoyable than all that!) this beautifully crafted and operated figure of Godiva began her journey in Coventry a day earlier and is gradually making her way down to London, visiting certain towns en route.

In Rugby her journey began at Rugby School, following a set route through the centre of town via High Street and Sheep Street before ending her walkabout at the town's library and art gallery (where she was presented with a rugby ball!).

This was a superb spectacle to behold, and despite the best efforts of the weather to sabotage it the event was a huge success in every way. The sight of this amazing figure gently caressing the tree-tops as she passed and moving in such a lifelike manner was a beautiful sight and one that will stay with me for some time.
