The making of "The Art of Video Games," the opening, and GameFest!
This set of images gives you a glimpse behind-the-scenes of the ongoing preparation for The Art of Video Games exhibition at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and includes images from the three-day opening festival, GameFest. From testing complex "playable" games and building colorful kiosks that showcase videos and screen captures, to entertaining thousands of visitors with music, open play, and live action video games - this exhibition was an exciting and challenging adventure for all involved.

The Art of Video Games is one of the first exhibitions to explore the forty-year evolution of video games as an artistic medium, with a focus on striking visual effects and the creative use of new technologies. It features some of the most influential artists and designers during five eras of game technology, from early pioneers to contemporary designers. The exhibition focuses on the interplay of graphics, technology and storytelling through some of the best games for twenty gaming systems ranging from the Atari VCS to the PlayStation 3.

The Art of Video Games opens on March 16, 2012. Please see our website for more information, including the complete list of featured games, and details on how to get YOUR name in the show.
