Borden Lighthouse

I must have passed this lighthouse at Canning so many times and not even noticed it...So it was a real treat to photograph it. It was once active up until the 1921 guiding ships into Canning Harbour, having been abandoned and then moved, it was finally bought buy the village of Canning and moved a final time to Canning Waterfront (1.5 km from it's original location) It was restored by the Fieldwood Heritage Society.

Thank goodness it was rescued and cared for otherwise it could well be on the list of surplus lighthouses to be unsupported if not taken over by Community Groups in NS and the other Atlantic Provinces...A great idea by the government...NOT! You would think with the amount of tax we pay they could actually afford to keep their heritage maintained and not replace these iconic beacons with a light on a mast! Mmmm that will really get the tourists flocking here! And yes Peggy's Cove is on that list believe it or not, although from what I have read I think it will be safe enough. Let's face it, that would be dumbest move in history to let her go to rack and ruin!
