Blue spotted salamander egg

The egg of Ambystoma laterale (blue spotted salamander) taken at Black Pond Woods, Ann Arbor Michigan April 1997. These salamanders lay small clusters, even single eggs, attached to aquatic plants and debris. Their congeners like texanum and maculatum generally lay larger clusters of eggs.
