The Tale Of The Uncooperative Comma

We had some sunshine, warmth and blue sky which brought the bees and a Comma Butterfly (the first and only one I have seen this year) to the Buddleia. Despite being a 'Dwarf' Buddleia mine has grown very tall this year with all the rain interspersed with the odd sunny day so the butterfly was very high up (see last picture) There was no way I could get a close 'open wing' shot, I even stood on the garden seat but still no joy, I asked it politely to come further down but it obviously didn't hear me so the photography session was abandoned and a short time later it flew away. However later in the afternoon I noticed it had returned, this time on a slightly lower bloom, quick rush for camera and a small stool and I was ready :-) Would it open its wandered happily over the little flowers with wings tightly shut (see below) I stayed teetering on the small stool and finally he opened his wings very briefly, I managed to get a few shots. I say 'he' because after checking some sites I think this is a male..which could of course explain the reason for him being so uncooperative :-)

The 'comma', which gives this butterfly its name can clearly be seen in the second image.
