Caning a curved seat - stages 1 & 2

The first 2 stages are complete - the first horizontals and verticals. When doing a curved seat or back, start with the strands that will be straight - in this case, the horizontals. Then place the verticals underneath them, to preserve the curve.

This is a chair that my small son rescued for me from a skip outside our house many years ago. It was painted white and the caning was more or less gone. It was a long time before I got round to doing it - too busy doing my customers' chairs to get around to my own. But I'm glad I finally caned it, as it's a very nice, comfy little chair now. Thanks Chris!
