The Liverpool Cityscape - Ben Johnson 2008.
This painting, "The Liverpool Cityscape" by Ben Johnson was commissioned for the Liverpool '08 celebrations. It took Johnson, and eleven assistants, three years to make.
He visited Liverpool, made drawings and took over 3000 photographs. 'Featured' buildings were drawn on a computer which reduced each one to a set of stencils. The stencils were used as masks for sprayed acrylic paint and the whole thing was 'finessed', by hand, with a fine brush. The picture measures 2.44 by 4.88 metres and is currently on display at the Walker art gallery where it is part of the permanent collection. It will eventually move to the new Museum of Liverpool.
For me, making this image was a bit simpler: I just took a couple of snapshots and cobbled them together with Picasa.
