"I'm on the right track"
Inspired by a wonderful sunset up in Dundee.
Well this is an image from a while back when I was up in Dundee. I managed to catch the late winter sunset over the The Tay Rail Bridge.
I was having quite a challenge to balance the high contrast levels when you can imagine my joy - which soon turned to horror - when I saw a train coming!
My aspiration was to get a nice motion blur of the train as it headed over the bridge!
Well as you can see from the image in my comments, I got my motion blur but not enough light to prevent a noisy underexposed image!
I banished these images to the "till later" file and it wasn't until I learnt that a flickr buddy had been placed in the Landscape Photographer of the Year 2011 competition that I reviewed this image again!
flickr buddy Mark Bradshaw was placed runner up in the "Adult Living the view" - Category! Sounds like porn but it's not! NB Do check out his amazing photostream though!
However, when I reviewed the other images I got the shock of my life to see someone had nailed the shot I had tried to get - Shahbaz Majeed's – "Tay Rail Bridge at Dusk, Dundee, Scotland" won the "Network Rail ‘Lines in the Landscape’ Award" for 2011!
Now my shot is nowhere near Shahbaz's excellent execution but it gave me a great lift to know that "I'm on the right track" when it comes to ideas! Okay in this case on the wrong side of the bridge - but I prefer the other title! LOL!
So as I head back to Scotland next week I thought it fitting to have a Scottish image to send me off! I'm staying in Loch Lomond (well not the Loch itself!) so hope to get a few minutes to myself to explore the surroundings!
Have a great week and remember keep trying!
