The (Magnum P.I.-like) helicopter I rode in

I took a doors-off helicopter tour of Maui. It was a great thrill ride. There was excellent weather and beautiful scenery.

    Hey, Isn't that Magnum P.I.'s helicopter? :-)

Nice catch with the great layer of clouds and the moon above.

You know, I kept thinking the same thing. So, when you mentioned it too, I looked it up. It's the same type of helicopter, a Hughes 500D, but the paint job on the Magnum copters included brown in the color scheme.

Very cool. Did you get helicopter sick up there?

Wow that's true!! These tipe of helicopters are very able to move quickly and easily.

I was going to take a heli tour a few days ago but the weather conditions didn't allow us to fly :(

That is so cool. I was / am a magnum fan.

I'm trying to visualize the reality of a 'doors-off' flight. Are you strapped in and can't move? Are you allowed to move but are in a harness attached to a cable that prevents you from actually falling? Something else? The sugarcane field shot was incredible - looks like engine/flight vibrations aren't excessive.

I wore a 5-point restraint. It's a seatbelt that goes over both shoulders, across you waist and over your crotch. I didn't feel terribly restricted. I'd highly recommend doing a doors-off helicopter tour if you're not afraid of heights.

Can you tell me the name of the helicopter tour company that took you up? We're going over in a few months, and I want to do this too. Do you recall how much it cost?

    Thanks much!
