Nice shot(s), but I've got to agree with Henne. Your recent skate stuff, sick though it is, is seriously biting Sem's style. Nothing wrong with that you understand, and maybe it's part of finding your own eye but... find your own eye, it's more fun that way!

I think this is just great! And about biting Sem's style, I don't know if it's even possible to photograph skateboarding without biting someones style. It's all about what you choose to do in different situations.

^ Of course it's possible. Style isn't just one thing, it's a combination of many factors. What makes all those skate photog's who have been shooting for the mags for a long time stand out is that they all have their own style. Maybe it's down to the format, lighting, exposure, angle, location, skater, post processing, or a combination of several - it all contributes to the style.

When I'm flicking through Kingpin/Document/Sidewalk/Transworld/Slap I usually know who the photographer is before I read the captions. If I saw this flick in a mag I would immediately think "Sem" rather than "Pires", and I think that's a bit of a shame.

I agree with you (mostly) without backing out from my comment, because we are both right. This is propably not the right place for it, but this topic could make for a good discussion in a skate photo group, compared to the usual 'what camera/lens etc.' ones.

I think there is nothing wrong in influensing from some photographer...there is no possibility to copy someone stuff.
If we talk about Sem...he uses technics inspired from old photograhy which is wonderfull. This is open language for every one of us.
